The most important records of bad debtors are the Registro de Aceptaciones Impagadas (RAI) and the Asociación Nacional de Entidades de Financiación (ASNEF). The former, RAI, depends on the Interbank Co-operation Centre (Centro de Cooperación Interbancaria), an association created by banks, savings banks and credit co-operatives. The second, ASNEF, covers the archives of Spanish financial entities.
It only takes a careless slip in the payment of an instalment to become part of RAI or ASNEF. Leaving them is a complicated process. Depending on the records in which you are included, you may stay there six years (in ASNEF) or 30 months (in RAI).
